Háromfázisú, nullavezető nélküli rendszerekben alkalmazott háromfázisú motorok védelmére fejlesztették ki. Mikor az L1 – L2 – L3 fázisok feszültsége normál értékű, akkor a relé bekapcsol, és a motor elindítható. Ha bármelyik fázis feszültsége a megengedett érték alá csökken, vagy megszakad, akkor a relé kikapcsol, és a motor leáll. Amennyiben a hibás fázis feszültsége visszaáll normál értékre, akkor a relé bekapcsol és a motor újra elindítható.
